The Gonzaga Seniors Instagram page has been a tradition at Gonzaga for the past couple of years. The Instagram account is a way of showing the entire Gonzaga community where our seniors are headed. After a student decides on a school and then intended major, they’re able to submit that information to a Google form from the college counseling department, and then that information gets translated into the Instagram account.
Helping out the college counseling department, the account is actually managed by seniors, and this year Wyatt Croog and Nick Kim have taken on the extra work. These two have been making sure that the account is regularly updated and is accurate and appropriately funny.
“It really depends on our time commitments for that day because we have to put our studies first,” Croog stated. “There’s no objective formula for how many we post and we like to diversify what schools are being posted, so it honestly depends.”
The account is by far the easiest and most popular way of letting Gonzaga and the rest of the world know where seniors are going to college. Once a post is made about a senior, hundreds of their friends and their family will repost and thus spread the word of where kids are going to college. This method of communication is almost flawless. While it is very easy to spread the word once it’s out, many seniors are left waiting for weeks until their post is made.
“Instagram is a platform that is so diverse in qualities, so the post can be shared in many ways,” Croog stated. “The most common form of spreading the posts is probably through something called stories, which are small posts that only last for up to a day.”
This account is very important to Gonzaga. This account allows the entire school to both know about and celebrate seniors’ college decisions. Regardless of how familiar people may be, this account creates an opening and an opportunity for the entire Gonzaga community to show their love and appreciation for seniors.
“I think it really reflects what we’ve accomplished despite the many hurdles that have been in our path,” Croog stated. “It recognizes the four hard years of work that all of us have put in; it appreciates our spirit of perseverance.”
The Gonzaga Seniors Instagram account is a fun, easy way for the whole community to acknowledge the graduating seniors and give them one more cheer before their last at graduation.
