As many Eagles enjoy some much-needed rest over this summer, some have chosen to stay dedicated to their studies by taking courses in order to expand their knowledge in certain subjects; one of the most popular summer classes is Geometry, for many students wish to skip right to Algebra 2 in order to achieve a higher understanding of math. Upon reflection, participants feel that taking this class has greatly prepared them for the rest of their high school math courses.
“My experience taking summer geometry was very good; I learned a lot and believe that my knowledge in this field has greatly expanded,” said Jack Armstrong ‘27.
While taking summer Geometry is very beneficial for one’s advancement in mathematics, it is certainly not easy to succeed in the class— a sentiment shared by many students.
“The course was challenging because of how fast paced it was; we learned almost a full chapter every day, so there wasn’t a lot of time to review old information, making this class harder than my course load last school year,” Duke Skorny ‘27 said.
Despite the class’s accelerated pace, students were not left to learn and study geometry all on their own.
“Mr. Lawrey, my teacher, was a good teacher. He was able to help any student understand information they didn’t quite grasp completely to make sure we didn’t fall behind,” Skorny said.
According to students, the summer Geometry class’s rigor and intensity forced them to adapt to the pace of the course in many ways, including incorporating necessary habits into their studying to succeed.
“I have achieved an A in this course by developing rigorous study skills, determination and discipline, which I believe will serve me well during the rest of my time in high school and beyond,” Armstrong said.
Bora Dayioglu ‘27 shared his advice to future students on if they should take summer geometry when the time comes.
“I say future students should take this course if they want to keep their mind sharp and take either regular or Honors Algebra 2 the following year, or if they struggled in their Geometry class the year before, for this class can serve as a great way to reinforce the material,” Dayioglu said.
