I believe companies have the right and the freedom to take a side in politics. However, they should be prepared for the side effects that can come from that. The country is extremely divided right now. Now, if one company takes a side, more and more will do the same, and then democrats will only drink Coke and republicans will only drink Pepsi.
The side taking will just keep going in a vicious cycle and no one will win. Large companies that have a lot of power and money do have the right to support whichever side they choose, but I think they should not because of the consequences that could follow. There are too many side effects or consequences that could come of this, and it is safe to say that almost none of them will be good.
Even if very few are good, the bad will outweigh the good 10:1. Politics gets people riled up in a way that I’ve never seen any other topic get people that worked up. People do not need more politics right now; as a matter of fact, they need less. If big companies are shoving their politics in the peoples faces then people will get even more defensive and people will start boycotting companies. Republicans will boycott companies that support liberal ideals and democrats will boycott companies that support conservative ideals.
Another side note, if a company is known for leaning one way then only people who share their mind will want to work there, and then every major company has only right-wing or only left-wing employees. Only people who lean left will work with those companies and same thing with the other side of the isle. This would lead to less interaction between parties and more division.
This country is already insanely divided and large companies taking political sides will make us even more divided.
