While most students at Gonzaga do not even know him or what he does, Mr. Conrad Singh is an integral part of the Gonzaga community. If you do know him, you may see him on the sidelines coaching football games or at football practice, or you may have seen him shooting videos around the school for a promotional media post.
Mr. Singh is the manager of digital media and multimedia productions in the marketing and communications department, and his office is on the fourth floor of Forte Hall, not a place students frequent. While you may not know how to get to his office, if you have seen a video promoting Gonzaga, Mr. Singh was the one who made, or at least edited, and posted it. He does all the media work to promote the school, including advertising of virtual events, on social media. For example, he organized the recent signing day ceremony and is in charge of all events that take place online. He puts together videos for the sports teams and even helps coach the football team.
As manager of digital media, Mr. Singh had to adapt when the world shut down and everything became virtual last March.
“Everything is virtual, and the volume of work has increased; the work has not been harder. There is just more of it,” Mr. Singh said.
Even though he has had a lot more work, he could see positives from working in the COVID-19 world.
“Comfortability in communication virtually is great. I was already kind of familiar with it, but now I have been able to be much more efficient in communication, and we’ve gotten better at virtual production,” Mr. Singh said.
Even though he sees positives, Mr. Singh mentioned that parts of his job are not easy.
“There is a constant pressure to plan,” he explained.
Every interaction online has to be planned at a certain time. He also lamented how normal the virtual world has become, as there are no longer in person events; he also said taking pictures of people with masks on is difficult because he wants people to know those at Gonzaga wear masks but it complicates getting a good picture.
Whether Mr. Singh is directing media, promoting sports or coaching them, he takes great pride in his profession.
In addition to all of the main parts of his job, Mr. Singh has become a mentor to all the athletes he coaches and he is a backbone of Gonzaga’s community.
“Coach Singh is constantly working and gives his all in everything he does,” said Judah Whiddon, senior, on his admiration for Coach Singh.
