What I have learned from Gonzaga

Over my past four years in high school, Gonzaga has taught me a lot.  From progressing in my academics, athletics and morals, Gonzaga has pushed me to become the best version of myself and has prepared me for becoming a student athlete in college at a challenging school.

Gonzaga’s rigorous courses and curriculum matched with phenomenal teachers have made learning in high school insightful and enjoyable.  The difficult AP classes that I have taken my junior and senior years have given me an understanding of how some of the classes in college will be taught.  While Gonzaga has helped me improve in many ways as a student, I believe that their English classes have been the most impactful.  I have seen a clear difference in my writing from freshman year, and I commend Gonzaga’s teachers and programs for that.

While Gonzaga is a rigorous school and students are obligated to keep their grades up, there are also wonderful athletic programs that helped me grow in my sports.  Even though I unfortunately missed my senior year golf season due to an injury, being part of the team for as long as I could prepared me for collegiate golf and gave me a greater appreciation for being part of a team.  I love all the guys on our golf team and have had a great time playing and lifting with them.

Another vital part of the Gonzaga experience is becoming a man for and with others.  The majority of this comes from teaching us to be part of and help out our community.  Volunteering and performing service with and for Gonzaga has been a part of my high school experience that I have fully enjoyed.  I have loved just simply talking to the men at the McKenna Center and listening to their stories.  The location of Gonzaga plus our unique situation with a homeless shelter on campus truly gave me a better understanding of and appreciation for how people from different backgrounds live.  Gonzaga has taught me that service will always be a part of my life and I know that I will continue to help my community even when I am on the west coast for college.
